Review on Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L ll USM Zoom Lens: Optimized Performance for Canon EF Cameras by Vinay Ahuja ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I expected mediocre quality, but the product was pleasantly surprised.

To the second review - try 35 / 1.4L and you will understand where the real, ultimate quality is. It is two orders of magnitude higher, it is really a real worthy lens corresponding to the proud letter "L". However, why go far, a simple 50 / 1,4 beats almost everything in quality, but no, perhaps all L zooms. 17-40, 24-70, 16-35, 70-200 - one garbage, they shoot for a solid 4 and nothing more. 24-105 - not worthy of the letter L at all. Well, perhaps the 70-200 4L IS is a little better than the rest of the zooms. On this, in general, the legend about the quality of zooms ends. 50/1.4 is better than any of these. I have 135 / 2L, 35 / 1.4 and fifty dollars - this is the limit, perhaps there is nothing more to strive for. Well, except maybe 200/2L, but a bit pricey. I have both crop and 5dmII, lenses do not change their optical quality when used on different cameras, only the angle. The fact that the flu is changing, supposedly revealing the potential of the lens, is complete nonsense.

Pros
  • Zoom, good workmanship. Angle is not a virtue, but its characteristic.
Cons
  • The quality is mediocre, like all zooms, even L. And this is not affected by the fact that it is used with crop or full frame. Completely agree with the first review.

I don’t understand how you can compare 35 / 1.4L or 50 1.4 and 16-35 ?! They compared a cow to a racehorse.
