Experienced aquarium owners will find it extremely beneficial to use this type of filter on the intake manifold of power filters. This prevents unwanted materials from entering the filter housing/basket while improving the quality of beneficial bacteria. The addition of this filter increases the size of the mechanical foam/sponge filter media and provides additional surface area for beneficial bacteria. The more the better. Easily adaptable to other intake manifolds. This Uxcell filter has a thru-hole in the center, so I inserted a 3/4" CPVC connector (39 cents on HD) into one of the open ends of the filter. I put the lid on with the open end down so it doesn't look like a cup and keep dirt out. CPVC is safe for drinking water and aquariums. It is best not to push the end of the filter intake hose too far. The hard part of the inlet tube blocks the filter and just needs to be passed through the mesh/slots of the inlet tube.
