This was thicker than expected, but that is OK. great on the knees to kneel on. I got this to be able to do situps, because the floor, even the carpeted floors, with a shag rug, hurt my back. Old age, you know. this pad protects my back, however it is so thick I have to fold up a blanket to place next to the pad so when I am lying down, my upper back is not "falling off a cliff". why don't I use the blanket and not get this pad? because the pad is sturdier, yet pliable enough to give a little and still protect my back. It springs back as opposed to a blanket that gets flat and has no springback. Kind of like when you run on those newer rubbery tracks vs asphalt. And again, the extra use as a kneeling pad.
