If I'm sounding too frivolous here, it's because I've been struggling with electronics lately and I'm not winning. I love technology (maybe as much as Kip) but it doesn't always reciprocate, like today when Adobe Premiere got stuck in the middle of a big project and I spent most of the day troubleshooting. But not my Shure desktop microphone that arrived today. I took it out of the box, looked at the instructions, popped it into Garageband, opened the vocal track and BAM! It worked like magic and tempered a day of techno frustration. I like things that work the way they're supposed to. He opened several preset effects tracks; Announcer, bright vocals, telephone, fluffy and robotic. I found the narration preset to be crystal clear and very suitable for voiceovers and podcast recordings. It was fun playing with and customizing the robot and phone presets. I copied excerpts of Adrian Belew speaking on the phone from his beautifully haunted and melancholy "Phone Call from the Moon", with parts sung through the Bright Vocals preset. I have to say I didn't sound bad at all. Now if only I could play the roomy lead guitar on this song. I have other, more expensive microphones for my musical vocal work. But for the money this little Shure does a decent amount of hard work and with my pop filter it will do just fine. Logic Pro requires a bit more preparation, but should deliver even better results. No wonder, since Shure has been a fixture in the world of microphones ever since. the invention of microphones. So it's easy for me to recommend this model as a very comfortable microphone at a really great price. To be honest, you could spend a lot more and not notice a huge difference. Good bang for the buck. And couldn't we use a little bang for your buck in these times of Covid? This and electronics that are ready to use out of the box. Peace and love to everyone who reads this review.
