Highly Recommended: Microphones

This microphone has great sound and build quality in a package that won't take up your entire desk. I mainly use this for Skype calls on Mac OS. This mic is probably overkill for this purpose, but I was happy with the price and it suits my needs. It features a zero-latency 3.5mm headphone output so you can hear yourself through the microphone with no delay. In addition, it doubles as an audio output device for your computer, which is also output through the 3.5mm jack. Coming from a family of…

Very cool, sounds great, love it!

I just received this mic and it works really great. I bought this for my wife to try out recording my students (clarinet) with my iPhone 6S and not only does it look amazing it sounds great to my aging ears (her ears are fine and she loves it). Compared to their iPhone6S mic, this mic is like comparing a Chevy Impala to a Tesla. The free app is also very cool, it records with the press of a button and the gain is set automatically. Even if you smack the app hard in auto-gain mode, it doesn't…

Excellent sound quality

I bought this mic to replace a Samson Meteor mic which has served me well but has not suffered from semi-regular dropouts. I bought Meteor on Wirecutter's recommendation and I wasn't disappointed. So when I needed a new mic and saw this Shure replacing Samson as their runner-up USB mic last year, I followed their recommendation over and over again and was not disappointed. This type of microphone is much better than built-in computer microphones as well as headsets. If you are recording or…

Great out of the box

If I'm sounding too frivolous here, it's because I've been struggling with electronics lately and I'm not winning. I love technology (maybe as much as Kip) but it doesn't always reciprocate, like today when Adobe Premiere got stuck in the middle of a big project and I spent most of the day troubleshooting. But not my Shure desktop microphone that arrived today. I took it out of the box, looked at the instructions, popped it into Garageband, opened the vocal track and BAM! It worked like magic…

Great little mic, poor design and cable construction

I bought this mic 2 months ago to record small musical performances (vocals, piano, woodwinds) from home with my iPhone and stream them live. Drawn by its compactness and direct iOS compatibility, I expected only average sound quality. Actual sound quality and the convenience of the built-in processing modes were excellent and rivaled the professional Shure microphones I've used in the past. To my surprise, the onboard processing modes cover most of my needs, some of which have quite high…
