We had problems with a leaking water module on the back of our Thetford Magic V RV toilet. At the time of the renovation, our toilet was nine years old. All Thetford toilets (so I'm told) require you to touch the toilet to change this valve. Some choose to replace the entire (plastic) toilet, but we chose to replace the module. This was our first time doing this DIY job and we learned a few lessons! Once the toilet has been raised it is easy to replace the valve and there are YouTube videos to help with this. BUT you can also replace the (several inch) clear plastic tube (not included) that carries water from the valve to the toilet. This piece of hose is only force attached (no clamps) and over time (or with higher water pressure?) it can stretch at the connection points and become another source of leakage. Our local hardware store had similar tubes. We learned the lesson about pipes the hard way as we had to go to the bathroom twice before all the leaks were fixed. Also the tube problem was not mentioned in the YouTube video. It was great that Beech Lane put a new rubber o-ring on the bottom of the toilet for replacement. The biggest issue for us was reconnecting the water to the toilet after re-installation due to the limited space (our RV is 27ft and has a small bathroom). My husband had to reach out and reconnect the water source "by touch". Also, make sure your toilet is completely down at right angles; We're a little skewed and need to adjust (again, hard to judge in such a small space). The toilet has worked well at our recent campsites - no leaks anywhere. The tide is now a bit louder and more energetic so we can tell that something has changed. Beech Lane is also designed to prevent freezing and is made from heavier plastic than the original Thetford. We live in South Carolina and for the last 8 years we haven't had to winterize our camper, but we do park it in the yard and our winter temperatures can be "borderline". After the work is done we are delighted with the quality of the Beech Lane water module and the additional frost protection is the icing on the cake! And all this at a very reasonable price.
