The effectiveness of this item is undeniable. It's pretty capable. I wanted to use this to plug a USB power adapter into my '98 Toyota 4Runner instead of an unused cigarette lighter. Unfortunately, while I read an article that outlined this process, many of the changes required to make this process work were overlooked. The first such problem was that the diameter of the socket is slightly larger than the hole that is left after removing the lighter. and housing (see picture). So I had to grind down its threads while I could still use them to use the collet after installation. Second, the orientation of the cigarette lighter's electrical housing is an "L" (see image), while the USB socket is formatted the same as a standard North American outlet, with two parallel pins. So I had to use a box cutter to split the case to accommodate the outlet. Third, the size of one of the housings (either - or +, I don't know which one, see disconnect so I can put the connection on the USB connector. If you're smart you'll get it right the first time and the clamps Plug the - and + into the correct connectors. I guess I'm not that smart. But after swapping to the correct pins and completing the installation in the dash everything works fine now. Easy.
