I used them almost twenty years ago to protect some of my closets from cats. So when I recently had a couple of cupboards to repair, I immediately thought of this product - I was very, very pleased the first time. Easy to install, works great. I was very disappointed. For various reasons. 1) When I bought them nearly two decades ago, the instructions were so clear, detailed, and repetitive it was almost ridiculous. I seriously thought that they could be that simple, gradual, and superfluous because the company felt a lot of grandparents would buy them because of their grandkids, and they suspected that older people might not hurt a little . Hand. Well that has changed. For the worse. Much worse, the instructions are now on a small piece of paper with drawings so tiny and tight that they are almost impossible to follow. I actually gave them up, which ended up having to redo half the work because I missed something. I strongly recommend that you don't mess with the instructions you were given, but follow the much better and easier to read instructions you can find online by searching "Tot Lok Installation Instructions". There are also videos on YouTube. 2) A stronger magnet would help a lot. In fact, the magnets I have from this old build almost two decades ago work better than the ones that came with the order. You can use any other magnet (but note that the magnets that come in metal holders may or may not work depending on whether the open pole of the magnet is North or South.) 3) Guaranteed packaging. Clamshell, scissors or other heavy cutting tool required. And when you open it, all fasteners - screws and small parts - fall out. After all, they work – even if you just have to hold onto the magnet. right -- but for me, based on my past experience, they fell short of my expectations
