Review on ๐Ÿ”ช High-Quality Morakniv Garberg Full Tang Fixed Blade Knife with Durable Sandvik Stainless Steel Blade, 4.3-Inch by James Wiley

Revainrating 2 out of 5

A good knife, a useless sheath won't hold the knife in place.

I received this Mora and unfortunately I am not satisfied with it. Read more: When reviewing a knife, I consider price when looking at the components included, particularly the sheath. I will forgive a knife under $30 if it came with a cheap sheath as you get what you pay for. Go over $40 and you expect the best quality and functional case. With that in mind, this Mora scored like this: Knife - 5 stars. If all you want is a knife, then Jackpot! This is a simple knife that does its job well. It will last a lifetime and will be hard to beat. It cuts well, so ignore other's complaints that it doesn't work. It cuts wood well, and if you absolutely must bludgeon it will stand up to abuse (please don't tan with knives, use a hatchet and your knife will last you a lifetime). The pen is good and despite the lack of protection it should work well. This is not a combat knife! This is a versatile knife, simple and straightforward. Scabbard - 1 star. I heard someone say that Mora put a lot of thought into the scabbard. I agree. Thay thought a lot until someone ordered a break during this meeting and it was left unfinished. The plastic stand with multiple brackets can be wall mounted or even car mounted for a permanent fixture. Not bad so far. It has 2 Velcro straps for attachment to MOLLE or other systems and can even carry a cross strap. Still not bad, although I like the permanent MOLLE strap rather than messing around with velcro straps when it comes to MOLLE. The knife must be in the included classic plastic sheath (you put the sheath in the holder). If you've ever owned a mora, you know this style of scabbard and the nice click when it's attached. This knife couldn't do that. There is no click so I pulled it out and it came out too easily. I sheathed the knife and shook it. After three light shakes, the knife flew into the towel I placed underneath. Okay looks bad but the knife comes with two rubber rings that slide over the sheath. One has a belt loop and the other has a latch to keep the knife in place. wohooo! .. not so fast. You cannot move both at the same time. Instead, you have to choose between a belt loop or a holder. As you can guess, I did some experimentation by crouching down to work in the garage and yard. The knife turned out to be a squirrel that had escaped from its sheath three times. That's one too many! If I were in the field, farewell dear Maura. Conclusion: For this price I expect a competent knife sheath. Some may buy it just for the knife and spend more money on the scabbard. I value my money and will therefore not buy another sheath. For me, it's like buying a new car only to change the seats because they're uncomfortable. I avoid knife makers who do this and am surprised that Mora included such a boring and IMO useless scabbard. There is a leather sheath option, but not only is it more expensive, I need MOLLE compatibility. I was dying to keep this knife in its current form, but not being able to carry it safely I am inclined to return it. Maybe Mora will come up with a better scabbard in the future.
