Review on πŸ’‘ TORCHSTAR 3 Inch LED Recessed Lights With J-Box E-Lite Series - Industrial Electrical Lighting Solution by Ryan Gillett

Small and bright. Ease of installation.

I bought a dozen 3 inch Torchstar LEDs with a 3000k color range to add more light to a finished wine cellar. The lights are small and bright. Requires a 3 inch hole for installation. The trim ring of the E-lite series is wide but protrudes very little into the top, so the holes must be precisely cut to avoid gaps between the top and the edge of the trim ring. Spring clips are very tight. In my case, I built fixtures into an existing plasterboard ceiling. I planned the placement of each light fixture as best I could, but I still ended up with a joist and 3/4 inch piping running across the ceiling. I was lucky with several holes where there were no obstacles. I drilled a hole in the wooden frame with a hole saw and was able to put the metal boxes in the holes and attach the lights. Another reviewer commented that the boxes were too big and took up a lot of space. While I agree that the boxes barely fit in a 3" hole, there isn't much room for wiring inside, especially if you're running a range of devices that have wires going in and out of the box. The boxes are equipped with quick connectors that replace traditional wire nuts. Up to 3 wires can be inserted into each connector, which is sufficient for most connection cases. There are break-out openings for the cabling on the long sides of the box. It would have been better if they were on the narrow ends of the box because I didn't have the option of fitting the box into the hole with a Halex vehicle connector, so I opted for lower profile nylon connectors. This is my first experience with nylon connectors and they worked really well. While still firm, I was able to insert the boxes into the holes. I love the look of the installed lights and they certainly provide the extra light I wanted for my space. I plan to install a dimmer to turn the brightness down a notch or two. Overall I am satisfied with these lamps.
