I bought this bag for a conference so I could have a lower profile bag to carry my laptop, notepad and pens and a few other small items. It worked great! It can be opened to a slightly larger size, but even at its narrowest it was roomy enough for my purposes without being unwieldy. It has enough padding for my laptop and is relatively water resistant. I survived light rain with no problems. I ended up using it at an amusement park (without my laptop of course) and it got wet during the water ride, but to be honest I was shocked by the fact that it wasn't completely wet. I love it.
