I bought these to use when the key or case is wider than usual and could block an adjacent port. One worked fine, connecting an ASUS UX305CA USB3.0 SS port to a WD Blue 250GB M.2 SATA SSD in a Silversone MS09 case at the same speed (CrystalDiskMark7) as a direct connection (>400MB/s max) . The rest behaved like USB2 (40 MB/s). I also tested the cables with a Crucial BX200 2.5-inch SATA SSD in the UGreen enclosure that comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable. In this situation everything worked OK. I hope this can help STARTECH to find the QA issue as it appears to be a cabling/protocol negotiation asymmetry issue or something similar if it can be fixed by connecting a USB-A to USB-C cable . It's obviously not worth sending them back from Australia to ask for a few bucks, but I'll be careful with STARTECH products until I see a solution.
