One of these is installed on the vaulted ceiling in the living room while other more expensive models are wired throughout the house. It flashes blue when it detects low levels of explosive gases in your home and sounds an alarm when levels are high. One fine day the alarm went off, but not on more expensive models. We called the fire department and they confirmed that we had high natural gas levels in our home and solved the problem. Another time the alarms went off again, and this time the other alarms went off again because the loading truck's battery charge released explosive gas into our home. Lesson learned: never charge a car in a garage. This is a great little alarm clock. Helped us twice. It warns of lower gas levels than most alarms. We also bought a portable gas reader to isolate the gas source, which I also highly recommend.
