Update Summary 01/15/20: Recently, after excellent service, bought a second identical enclosure for another 4TB external hard drive from WD as a backup hard drive for another PC . from the first case, which has worked well so far. While I initially had some concerns about heat loss due to this fanless design; I've found that the closed HDD temperature has never risen above 45C and the HDD is still fine, so I'm increasing the rating from four to five stars. My only downside now is the instability of the case when trying to use the case in a vertical position, so I attached four rubber feet to the large flat side of the case and used it lying on my side. Much more stable but also less prone to vibration due to rubber feet in each corner. First Review: Installed on day one and works well for the new WD Black 4TB HDD backup. Advantages: 1. Easy to install drive. The appearance of the case is pleasant. Black plastic with aluminum coating.2. Connects well with USB 3.0 running on Win10. There is no problem to initialize and format a new hard drive with Win10.3 Disk Management utility. Works well with a 4-hour full backup/scan of the PC system using Acronis TrueImage. Drive temperature started at 39C. Gradually increased to 44C.4. The hard drive activity light is beautiful and easy to see.5. Very handy size for a backup drive; for storage in desk, cupboard when not in use.6. Haven't seen any of the connection issues that other reviewers have reported.7. The included USB cable is about 2 feet long and fine for my use. Cons: 1. Now the drive has been running for 16 hours, the file optimizer has been running for the last hour, and the temperature of the disk reaches 45 degrees C. It would be better if the temperature stayed in the range of 35 to 40 degrees. I can try drilling holes in case heat dissipation improves. You may be able to improve airflow by placing the device in front of or on top of the PC case intake fans. In comparison, the WD Black 2 TB Tower only runs at 32°C after prolonged use.2. The power cord is about 4 feet long and too short to accommodate the case. I would prefer 5 or 6 feet like I have on older Western Digital USB sticks.3. The case stands upright, but without stabilizing legs or a stand, it can easily topple over. I downgraded the rating to 4 stars due to the lack of a heatsink and short power cord.
