Compared to the aux input, the spdif output provides superior sound quality. Sound from a dexp that is spdif-connected to a TV will play through both the TV's speakers and the soundbar. When my father-in-law was on TV, I muted the volume. The soundbar is where I make adjustments. I don't get the appeal of watching wide-diagonal cable TV channels. So, I hook up the tricolor receiver to the soundbar through HDMI, and use the receiver's remote to adjust the volume and channel. In addition, a PC could be linked to the TV box through HDMI. The Xbox's sound settings require manual tweaking, which can be a hassle. However, the TV's headphone jack allows for simultaneous aux connections, which can be managed via the set's remote. The soundbar's lack of a remote is OK by me because I have plenty of other gadgets, each with its own remote. Each time you use the remote, you lose it.
