I bought it purely as a hiking backpack. I have hair below my navel that I braid while exercising. I bought three other similar bags - from expensive to cheap. Because my ponytail/braid is so long, on the other 3 styles my hair would get tangled in the zippers on the back of the bag (not the zipper itself, but the loop that attaches the zipper to the zipper link mechanism). This model has a material flap that zips up the back to keep my hair from getting tangled. It also has plenty of space and multiple compartments. I can put a water bottle in one of the front pockets and my smartphone in the other. Highly recommend, especially if you have long hair that gets tangled in the zipper.
