They say stainless steel but I'm not sure if it really is stainless steel. My daughter still seemed to have a reaction of red ears and tenderness even after cleaning her ears and earrings. The thread for the back is not as deep as it should be and the back is very narrow so the earring on the screw is on the back. That's not the screw quality on the back I'd look for if you want them to stay in your ear. However, the gemstones were perfectly colored and the earring itself was eye-catching and the perfect size for little ears.
