Review on πŸ“ Godeson 88702 Pack of 2 Smart Color Coded Tire Tread Depth Gauges by Gervan Mauldin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Enough for spare parts

This is a simple mechanical tread depth sensor, what can happen to it? The construction feels solid and glides smoothly. There's enough friction to keep the carriage from moving on its own, so you can check the tire, slide the gauge back, and take a reading. I think it will withstand some abuse and not fall apart. Has a pocket clip to prevent it from falling out of your shirt pocket when you bend over. The only thing that came to my mind was the problem with such a sensor, how accurate it is. I checked it with vernier calipers and at 3/32 (which should be 0.094") it measures 0.104". A 32/32 or full inch is .990 inches. This is not an accurate gauge, and both measurements are close enough to look for a change every 32 inches. It's a tire gauge, not a micrometer. I even compared it to a dime for the good old Lincoln Head Backup Test. It was exactly where it should have been for a bus that failed inspection. For the price, this tool is worth the money.
