This backpack is the PERFECT size for my four year old son. I don't plan on him using it in middle or high school because I'm sure by then his tastes will have changed. He seems strong enough to get through elementary school. Stitched-on hoops make it charming! He received many compliments in the month he took him to school. This would be too small for a middle or high school student unless they are much smaller than average. We keep it by the top handle at home and I think they do at school too and it hasn't shown any signs of wear yet. It probably won't fit 5 heavy books, but it's perfect for basic homework for preschoolers and kindergarteners! A great purchase that none of us regrets!
