So here's the story. I have a 2007 Honda Civic with a 5 speed manual transmission. This is a good daily driver that said it all. After about 90,000 km of driving, it became difficult to turn on the second gear. Sometimes the synchronizer refused to turn the gear before engaging, leading to destructive wear of the "gear", in other cases the locking ring did not interfere with the cam clutch teeth. The situation quickly deteriorated to the point where 2 on 95k became virtually unusable. Curse! A google search revealed I'm not alone; In fact, I was part of a huge crowd of unhappy Civic owners. A rebuilt transmission with installation will cost or take you about $3,000 (and that's without the new clutch and throwout bearing, which you'll want to do when you get there). For a 10 year old car that made me sick and very unhappy. The listed oil change interval is 120,000km so I haven't been there yet. Honda fans who have had the same problem have said that draining the transmission oil and topping up the Honda grease didn't help (other than spending a few bucks on a mechanic to fix it). Wallet). But they also said that draining and refilling Red Line MTL *did*. So I took 4 liters (the Civic manual says it takes 1.8 liters but it's actually around 2 liters). .and it worked! It's not ideal; About once a month I feel like it refuses to shift into gear so I move the lever back to neutral and try again and then it locks. That's a lot better than an expensive gearbox swap. At the time of writing, the car has approximately 107,000 miles on the odometer. If you're one of those unlucky mobsters like me, it's worth a try. A side note: whatever lubricant you put in your gearbox, make sure it's rated GL4, not GL5. GL5 contains sulfur additive and will slowly consume the "yellow metal" alloys found in synchronizer clutches. If it says GL5 and also matches GL4. NOT GOOD. It should only be rated GL4. Red line is the correct GL4 formula.
