The colander is completely full, but you have to hold it with both hands to shake it due to the weight of the noodles. Larger pasta like rigatoni can only hold half the volume. In a small colander it is convenient to drain a jar of beans or a large diced onion. Sieves are easy to clean and fold up. If you are cooking for more than 1 person, get a larger set.
