Hard latex cushion, couldn't find a comfortable position

First, I love latex foam. I have latex mattress pads, latex pillows, latex knee pillows, 1" and 1.5" thick latex travel pillows, and a wedge shaped latex headrest pillow. Latex foam has better recovery than any other foam and indentation deformation is different from urethane. I prefer latex to urethane. Memory foam isn't even in use, for me it's best to sit on. In a past life I designed chairs for office furniture and the size and choice of foam was an ongoing design decision. Comfort is a subjective criterion for the user. This is my experience with this pillow. Different people with different heights, shapes and weights may have different reactions. For reference, I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 185 pounds. An adult human head weighs 8 to 12 pounds, with an average of 10 to 11 pounds. I was optimistic about this latex pillow. Unfortunately I am disappointed after one night of use. It is very stiff for a pillow and offers no lateral support. The gel portion is less stiff; But it's still too much for my taste. I have tried the pillow in all back positions. The pillow has a high and a short hump, which are connected by a hollow. The gel portion lines the top of the bumps and valleys. It doesn't go all the way forward or backward, but ends just past the crest of each hump. Problems for back sleepers: With a small hump under the neck, the distance between the two humps is too small. The top of my head touches the high hump before the small hump is under my neck. With a large hump under my neck (the best position I've found), the hump is too high and my head feels like it's reclined. I can feel where the gel ends at the base of my neck, creating an even firmer patch of support. By turning the pillow over so the bumps face down, I have a pillow that tapers forward or backward. Neither of these positions resulted in a comfortable head position. In all positions I never feel like my head is supported from side to side due to the stiffness. I used another wedge shaped latex foam pillow to place it side up against my head for support. Again the top of my head touches the high hump before the short hump lies comfortably under my neck. A high side is best for side sleeping; However, the hump is a bit too high and I can really feel the transition from the gel to the firmer side of the foam on my neck in this position. Photos: 1 gallon of water and pitcher weighs 8.5 pounds. You can see that it hardly dents the pillow, indicating the high rigidity of this pillow. The other pillow I show as an example is my soft latex pillow that I use for side support. Construction: High quality cushion and very well constructed. The case is well made and feels soft. I love the textured surface and the mesh ends for the vents. Sizing is such that a regular size pillowcase is too long and a bit wide for a pillow. Background: Natural latex is made from the sap of rubber trees. The juice is whipped and poured into a mold to give it the final shape. In the Talalay process, the form is only partially filled out. Vacuum is used to fill the mold completely. After vulcanization, the foam is softer than Dunlap foam when the mold is completely filled with latex rubber. Latex foam can be made in a variety of densities, resulting in varying degrees of stiffness from soft to hard. Holes or other shapes can be strategically placed in the foam to also change the stiffness and shape for an ergonomic effect. Conclusion: Not my favorite latex pillow, I wouldn't buy it again.
