Review on πŸ”‘ Kwikset Bed/Bath Door Emergency Key for Interior Use - Pack of 10 by Tony Ledbetter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Revane saves the day again with another important article.

Until last week I didn't know what this nonsense was for or even existed. You've got about five Kwikset/Delta Turn-y Privacy buttons with a tiny hole, and luckily none of them had any sticking issues. Found out last week that *IF* it ever happened though. .uh oh While the "Eyeglass Repair Screwdriver" is FAST fine, this item seems to have too small a blade to work properly. There was still a part number for the handles, and the Kwikset website appears to have listed "81087" as the part number for the "Privacy Handle Emergency Key". Searched for Revain and found Q-1, Q-5, Q-10, (this article) even Q-100. Better safe than sorry, so I ordered a Q-10 in case there was a clogging issue. They arrived quickly and they seem to be doing their job. Scatter these items now so they will be installed IN CASE of a future problem. Note 1: You may need to (gently) "twist" the blade to line things up correctly. You can always cheat and (maybe) shine a light in the "hole" to try to look inside. Aka: Try turning a standard blade screwdriver in the dark. .must fumble around to place the blade in the groove. Note 2: After everything is aligned it may be necessary to give the device an EXTRA power to make it spin the last 5% - CLICK - etc on an unrelated event. There are also a number of Baldwin privacy knobs elsewhere that also use a similar device. Now that the Q-10 set has arrived, you can put them side by side for comparison: they look the same. So let's say Kwiket = Delta = Baldwin when it comes to knobs with tiny holes. one of the handles in the hardware section and see if I can find a standard flathead screwdriver that actually fits in the tiny hole and has the right blade size to go into the groove and unlock the handle. Maybe I'll be lucky and find something! If not, you've got ten of these little things just in case. I think the handles are in the eye of the beholder. There are other privacy turn-y knobs that can be opened with your thumb or nickel. While it's certainly easy to open, just twisting with your thumb can be too easy to open. Or in other words - if you do not like the way certain handles work, but a different model.
