Review on Laser printer Brother HL-L2340DWR by Micha Spodymek ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like everything, the price and quality are acceptable.

The printer connected to the Wi-Fi network without problems using WPS, a quick installation guide is attached (point 5C). Even before turning on the printer on the router, he assigned a fixed IP address to it (it prints its own MAC address and other network parameters). All the problems with the need to reconnect to a Wi-Fi network, which are written in the reviews, are supposedly related to the fact that routers can give out different dynamic IP addresses from time to time and all you need to do is make the IP address permanent in any way (make its static or dynamic but the same every time it is turned on). There is no network wired connection. The times when the printer must be connected to a specific computer are long gone. For some reason, there is USB, but no LAN, it would be better if it was the other way around. Having connected the printer to the network, I thought that I would go to the WEB interface and see a bunch of settings (like on HP printers, for example) and set everything up as I needed. But there is almost nothing there and the WEB page is made in the style of the times of Windows 95 and Internet Explorer 3, this is some kind of shame. In general, there is almost no WEB-interface. Next, install the drivers. The model is old, a CD with drivers for Windows XP is included. But this is half the trouble. Does anyone know where to insert a CD in 2022? For Windows 7, I downloaded the driver from the official website, installed without problems. For Windows 10, I didn’t have to download anything, I opened “Printers and Scanners”, clicked the “Find Printers” button (the printer should naturally be online at that moment) and that’s it, Windows saw the printer on a Wi-Fi network and downloaded the necessary driver from the Internet . I installed iPrint & Scan on my smartphone, everything works without problems. On Linux Mint 20.2, it turned out to be enough to enter the printer settings dialog and it appeared there automatically, without even having to press anything. Before printing, it wakes up from deep sleep for a long time, about 10 seconds, but this is not critical, we are not in a hurry. Included is a power cable with a straight plug, which prevented the printer from being pushed close to the wall. Buying a corner solved the problem.

Pros
  • Wi-Fi, closed tray, two-sided printing, black and gray.
Cons
  • No wired LAN interface, no web user interface, awkward one-line display.
