Dissatisfied. best handheld vacuum

There are exactly two things I like about this vacuum: portable size/weight and the fact that it runs on batteries. This is where love ends. I don't think I've ever written a "bad" review, but my anger at this product prompted me to do so. Our house is 90% wood floors with a decent pile carpet - seems like we should be perfect for this type of vacuum, but I've found that there are more things it doesn't pick up than things it does. it is very striking with bare feet on a wooden floor. My list of things this vacuum doesn't suck is -1. Cheerios (or similar little pieces of cereal/crackers/whatever you have.) We have one child and these foods are at least 50% of the reasons we vacuum in the first place. He can drop it, even break it, but he really doesn't want to suck on it. 2. Sand or falling rocks - we live on a gravel road. Small tiny pieces of stone and sand end up in front of our door. This vacuum seems to suck them up, but spits them out somewhere else in my house as I continue sucking. I think they just got tangled in the bushes. I'm not talking about big stones here. Just a bit of sand! I've tried both brush speeds - the higher speed just scatters them everywhere.3. Small scraps of paper - see #1. We have one child. Why are these tiny, light bits of paper so hard to vacuum? I can go back and forth 20 times and MAYBE he sucks if I hit right on target.4. The straw that broke the camel's back today? Plastic swing tag. You know, the ones who put a price tag on a new shirt minus the real price tag. Just a tiny, insignificant piece of plastic and it will NOT soak it up. I've tried every corner. I've been trying longer than I care to admit. I would spend less time and energy buying a broom and dustpan (for all of that, really!). I will say that this thing will vacuum up pet hair pretty decently. I can only say positive things about the suction power. We tried to fix as much as possible - empty the vacuum regularly etc. No dice. So on to the next problem - sometime in the third week of use, our device fell apart right where the bottom meets the vertical part (photo attached). Nothing's broken as far as we can tell - just a plug that fits into a groove (no locking feature) so it's very easy to put back together, but now it falls apart every time we pull the vacuum back. us when we vacuum our carpet. It's literally such a weak connection that we now have to push (not pull!) it across the carpet to suck it up, which seems like a lot of fuss considering it's still not sucking up stuff. We bought it to replace a vacuum cleaner that never gave us any problems until one day it died. I just bought a newer version of this vacuum here on Amazon. I'm done with this case!
