I simply slipped a metal plate under the outer plastic case, and once I was about an inch away from the magnetic pad, the phone pulled back firmly. The magnets were able to hold my phone fairly securely and it has never been dropped to date. Of course, this was not due to the magnets, but to the arm itself, which had completely detached from the CD slot of the holder. I don't see any way to restore it other than gluing it. The lever was bolted on, but the bolts barely penetrate the lever to full thread, and the plastic came off fairly easily. Longer screws would probably have prevented this and seems like the only way to fix this as the glue would suffer the same fate.
