Great drive for my Dell M1330

I decided to order this brand new LG to replace the lousy Matshita UJ-857G in my favorite Dell XPS M1330 laptop after hearing many horror stories from other Matshita owners drives, especially slot loaders. This LG is one of the official drives for my laptop along with Matshita. At the time of the replacement, the Matshita still works perfectly, despite being finicky with various media brands. Matshita drives are very famous for this and we all know it. They arrived at my hotel on time during my business trip to Chicago. It comes in a small, thick box to protect the drive, which ultimately helps as I'm personally bringing it home from a business trip to Singapore. Crazy long journey! The fun begins after recovering from jet lag. Although this LG has Apple branding on the label, loaded with Apple BS39 firmware, it works very well with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. With the help of the service instructions, I can easily replace the drive myself. Installation was easy and works flawlessly with all my media, including the ones Matshita had trouble with. Verification was successful after a full burn. Putting that exact script on a matshita will definitely get you a frisbee, unless you reduce your read/write speeds significantly, resulting in much slower burns. Regardless, this is still a godsend for DL media, while SL media and CDs generally record well. Just a note: inserting and ejecting a disc is louder. Otherwise, I can say with confidence that LG is significantly more stable and reliable than Matshita.
