I chose the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE to upgrade my smartphone for many reasons. One of the most obvious was the price. For $599 (which is what Revain had when I bought it) it was an unbeatable deal. The other was the specs: the Snapdragon 865 and 6GB of RAM were perfect for my needs. My old Galaxy S7 looked almost primitive compared to the S20 FE. So I decided to go for a mid-range phone. At first glance, the S20 FE seemed too good to be true. While the screen isn't 4K, it still looks great with the 120Hz refresh rate enabled. The rear cameras look incredibly good, nice and clear. I've done everything from web browsing and gaming to word processing and photography, all with minimal effort. Battery life is solid, but not the best on the market right now. With the S20 FE you can still get through a few days at 120Hz. Plus, Android's customizability is unbeatable. With the ability to install launchers/widgets, as well as plenty of storage space (and SD card support), the S20 FE gives you plenty of choice. The size, although much larger than what I'm used to, still feels very comfortable in the hand. I would recommend getting a case and screen protector for this as I've seen people crack the screen with a single drop. But if you've read anything at all about the S20 FE then you know there are problems. . First, the virtual proximity sensor on the phone works fuzzy at best. When I tested this myself, I had to be directly over the sensor for it to recognize my face. And for phone calls, that means a few more accidental disconnects/hangups than usual. Even facial recognition and fingerprint scanners are not enough. I'd say it works about 85% of the time, but when it doesn't work, do you ever feel it? In addition, the front camera is rather dark. Not bad, but far from flagship level. You need to be in absolutely optimal lighting to get a decent picture. So if you're looking for a phone to take indoor selfies with, I'd look elsewhere. From what I've seen, the standout complaint about the S20 FE is the touchscreen. And yes, my cell phone (ordered at the beginning of November) also has a problem. Pretty horrible ghosting when testing on the touchscreen test app. There is no doubt that the S20 FE has a hardware problem. There have been updates since the phone was released, but none of them have completely fixed it. just a plaster on a bloody wound. The real question is: does this affect day-to-day use? Will you notice this every time you use the S20 FE? The answer to both is no, at least for me. While I'm sure it affects certain tasks (especially ones that involve fast typing or more than 3 fingers), I haven't really noticed it in real use. Pinching/zooming with fingers close together causes screen tremors, but that's all I've seen. If that bothers you enough to reject the S20 FE, I don't blame you. It's a shame I can't give the S20 FE a perfect 5 stars because in a way it deserves it. But with these hardware problems, there is always a concern that they will only get worse over time. That's real concern, I understand. But despite the issues, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is a great phone. It really does feel like a flagship phone, but with a huge discount and a few downgrades. Only time will tell if the problems with the phone get worse, but for now I'm more than happy with it. Edit (08/18/2021): I downgraded my rating from 4 stars to 3 stars. It's been a little less than a year and the above issues have started to affect everyday use in a way that has gone from being a great phone to being a regular phone not worth your time. Okay, maybe not everyday use per se. But enough to affect my initial thoughts about him. The number of times this phone in my pocket has turned on due to ghost touch is insane. Every time I take it out of my pocket, it opens a random app and types a few letters on the keyboard. And that's after adjusting the settings to stop things like this. I disabled double-tap to turn on (although I wanted the feature) and enabled accidental touch protection (which did absolutely nothing). I even made the phone require face or fingerprint recognition to unlock every time I close it. But it just keeps happening. As expected, no software update fixed the screen. This is a pure hardware mess. Here's the truth: the S20 FE's screen is terrible. Worse than my old S7. Worse than the screen of a budget Android phone. This goes beyond understanding. The virtual proximity sensor isn't good either. I almost want to give it the classic Angry Customer Revain 1-star rating, but I'll refrain from doing so. It's still good here with the chip, customization and great battery life, but it can only take you further. Here's my advice: don't worry about this phone. You can get a mid-range smartphone for the same (or even lower) price with better specs. It's still not the worst and I'm not throwing it in the trash just yet, but it's definitely the last Samsung product I'll buy. So disappointing but I couldn't in good conscience give this 4 star review.
