I use them in my garage before the carbon filter and salt water softener. I'm on city water and it always seemed clear. My shower never has an orange cast from rust particles. All the plumbing in the house is PVC to keep it from rusting. I have no idea which pipe my water flows through before it reaches my territory. In any case, I have to change these filters every two months as they are a very dark rust color. Thing is, you might not think you need it. In 1.5-2 months I will show a photo of my last filter. This is in a family of 2 using city water. They will fit any 10" filter housing. This is also the same filter used as the 1st stage in a reverse osmosis system or a 3 stage filtration system that uses 10" filters. Removes rust, sand, dirt. It doesn't remove chlorine or anything like that. Easiest is to buy them in a bundle so they'll always be available for next replacement. I have no complaints about these. Note this is a picture of my LAST filter so the new filters don't have those vertical horizontal ridges like the rusty filter.
