Amazing Zipper Innovation by Senior Citizen

Where I live, winters are often very cold and snowy. I have a large fenced yard. The fence fabric is what they now call Stock Wire. In my day it was called Hog Wire. It is a square grid whose squares get smaller closer to the ground. When it snows, the snow first melts on the wire and then freezes. As more and more snow falls, the weight puts pressure on the entire fence line. Aluminum clips commonly used to attach fence fabric to posts and top rails pop out or break as the weight of the snow increases. This year, stainless steel ties are used to attach the wire fence fabric to the top rail at the junction of the post and head rail. Plastic ties have a 70 pound weight limit and are exposed to sunlight and freezing temperatures. Stainless steel cable ties cost almost two hundred pounds without harming the environment. Due to the sagging of the fence fabric, I had to devise a method to stretch the fabric all the way to the rail in order to use the stainless steel cable tie. I have used a Bessey jig set which uses an interchangeable 3/4" tube to accommodate the different widths of different jig jobs. The 2 foot tube gave me just enough clearance to pull the wire mesh up to the top rail by simply rotating the jaws of the clamp until the wire and rail were pinched and held securely together with a stainless steel tie. I didn't cut the end of the tie, but let it hang down so I didn't catch my hand on the sharp end. Once I mastered the tensioning process, everything went well.
