First, the assembly instructions for this door were inadequate. A template should have been provided, or at least instructions on how to create a template. We put this on the door of our laundry room as that is where the litter box and food are. We wanted to be able to close the door for soundproofing when our washing machine is running and lock it at night. After cutting a hole in our door and installing the cat door, we found that my cat could open it on his own. We've been trying this for a few nights to ensure we're using the blocking mechanism correctly. (It's a bit confusing if you're upside down trying to read this.) Waste of time and effort installing this door. We sent it back and ordered another door with a different lock. Unfortunately, my cat has now figured out how to open the new door. blahhh
