Review on πŸ”¦ Efficient Lighting with GE Porcelain Lampholder Keyless 18304 by James Nedumaran

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Electrical dimensions do not comply with the standards.

About two years ago I replaced the original light with a light from a hardware store but it had a different design in the way the circuit came out of the light. This lamp had a chain that was pulling on the porcelain and this put a lot of strain on the chain and it broke inside the switch. It would probably work fine if it was ceiling mounted, but it is wall mounted. I bought these because they looked like the original lamp design. Unfortunately, even after removing the breakaway porcelain tabs, the slotted holes still did not align sufficiently with the electrical box screw holes to allow for screw insertion. Luckily I still had the original light fixture from the 50's when the house was built and was able to swap out the internals (the switch that failed after 60 years) and now the cabinet lights are working again. Hopefully the switch part will last a few years. Another issue is that the wire connectors are tight for 12 gauge wire, probably only for 14 gauge wire.

Pros
  • Large fit for me
Cons
  • No instructions
