I bought two. With both on, it's too dark to read a book. I am very surprised by this. Lightbulbs are part of the reason, but lampshades are the real culprits. They block the light. They are more like mood lamps or very large night lights. For my use they are perfect. If I wanted the lamps to be brighter I would buy other shades. This would be a great lamp for people who don't want to disturb their spouse/roommate or for those who insist on sleeping with the lights on. Not good for people who have cats that throw a tantrum if you step on them in a dimly lit room.
