We had a series of chills that made me want to try a longer down jacket. The Mineshaft color sold out a lot and I chose it even though the color didn't look attractive. I can't get over the color of the silt, but that's okay. Not as shiny as in the picture and not quite grey. I would describe the color as mushroom. I'm 5ft 8in, 140lbs and bought a size up so I can layer on. I love how it fits. It hangs well and I don't feel wrapped up. The shoulders and shoulders leave plenty of room to ride without looking baggy. The fabric is soft and has a slightly plastic feel. Snow and light rain are coming. Pockets are good and deep. The two-way zip is a nice touch. Cuffs don't pinch - I hate cuffs that don't pull back. This actually looks flattering for a puffy coat. It lacks frills like hood adjustment, but the hood stays up and keeps your ears warm, even though the fabric is a bit noisy. No inside pocket. I wish there was a zipper garage to keep the cold zipper off my chin when I'm not wearing a scarf. This coat doesn't feel as warm as my shorter, bulkier down jacket, but it seems to make up for that by keeping me warmer. It's thin enough to pack, but I felt comfortable adding a fleece layer for walking as a teenager. I know that in a humid climate it wouldn't be that hot. Anyway, I'm happy with it. Compared to other outdoor sports brands, this is a real bargain. Update Winter 2018: If you are looking for a travel coat, this Columbia model may not be for you. Although it's theoretically boxed, it takes up quite a bit of space. In the winter, I often fly with only carry-on luggage and ended up buying another long down jacket that weighs only 10 ounces and fits in a burrito-sized bag. The Columbia coat's durable material makes it less packable but more resistant to water and snags. For everyday activities like walking the dog and shopping, things will definitely get better over time. I hope this is useful information for someone!
