Over the years I've gone from 5.2 to 7.2 and 9.2 configurations and have used different 12ga cables each time - some old, some new. I thought hooking it up was easy until I set up my latest home theater receiver - the Denon avr6700 - and did the speaker setup, it told me some of the speakers were out of phase. Although I labeled my speaker wires (+/-), some fell off over time and it wasn't always easy to tell which was which. These wires have red and black sides and cannot be swapped. I have a 9.2 system in a fairly small room (20x20) so I only have 2 long cables going to the rear high speakers which I can't re-solder as they are in the wall. The 14ga cable is good for the other 7 speakers and everything is fine now.
