Review on 🎧 FARO Aviation Headset Converter: Low to High Impedance Adapter for General Aviation (GA) and Military Headsets by Mike Roe

Well done but doesn't work well. Electrical engineer not consulted

This adapter does not change the circuit impedance in any way. I've found that headsets with ANR units usually work but sometimes don't and it depends on the aircraft. Wired headsets like the traditional David Clark or Astrocom didn't work at all on the three different C172s I tried using them with. I bought one of these to use with my Fightcom ANR headset which was released while I was working on the KC-135. Yes, I didn't want to buy another headset for the GA lessons on the Cessna. At over $70 this little thing is WAY overpriced. As I said, it only connects nets and doesn't change the impedance. However, it is well put together. The ends are solid and appear to be made from quality parts. However, you have to pay attention to the end of the headset plug, as the short headset plug tends to jump out with the slightest pull. The female end of this adapter doesn't hold it securely like other sockets. Ribbon. As said, it also depends on the aircraft's avionics package and how the circuit "likes" it after plugging in the headset. On a C172 aircraft, the adapter worked fine with my ANR headset, but I had to crank the mic sensitivity to maximum. One of the G1000 wouldn't accept it at all. Summary: If you have an expensive approved ANR headset that you want to use, roll the dice and see if this adapter works for you. If you have a generic DC set that you want to use just like that, I'd recommend just spending the extra $40 on a good new headset, or getting a used one for the price. I wish I had done that first and saved myself the headache.
