For many years I've thought about adding a highlighter, not only for stunning/unique highlights when using silver, but as a wider/wilder reflection fill with a white side that also adds a nice subtlety to curved areas leaves shapes than my typical reflector reflectors. Both Adorama and B&H had big sales for the more expensive versions in December 2020, which eventually got me pulling the trigger. AFTER 4+ hours of researching famous brands and "smaller" names, I concluded that they were all good. almost the same product in quality with similar issues/complaints BUT there are a few key differences. Best of all, even at a 50% discount, EMART was still worth half the cost of the house brand when you add the cost of the white/gold reflector. Another difference is the ability to rotate the mount 180 degrees, a handy feature for vertical use (not that you need it, but never say never). . . Emart has this feature and big names are allowed to rotate 120 degrees, so less travel. Now the point where well-known brands and nameless brands are the SAME: COMPLAINTS about difficult assembly. - Oof! As a mobile shooter who has switched to all Glow Easylock softboxes (best system/price/product ever!) I dreaded the thought of the mod being big, unwieldy, and bogging down on the spot. But damn, for some headshots I want this trick light (it looks really great), . . Anyway, I almost went with the brand because I was thinking of the "higher price = higher quality" axiom, which used to be a good bet to hope that the device that comes along will stifle that cheap crap. . But in the end, knowing I'd be using both white and silver equally, the velcro design of the white/gold reflector was the final deciding factor, not the ridiculous need to disassemble/reassemble the device to get it to be replaced with a silver one. too white on brand devices. Not to mention the extra $50 to get a white reflector. When the Emart landed on my doorstep just in time, I was ready to experience the often mentioned nightmare/difficult build using inferior materials with poor fit and finish. to. I confess I saw the video on the site first - that's all it takes to become a pro. I planned to apply silicone powder to the tubes to smooth out the expected fit. Nonsense! First assembly took 10 minutes, easy, no rough parts, smooth easy sliding fit of the reflector on the frame. I learned from another review that it's useful to use the knee and wall to position the last bar entering the frame. It's a one piece piece of kit and as a cabinet engineer I can't think of an easier way to design a reflector like this that is quicker to assemble and so strong once assembled. Maybe in the future I can shave a minute or two off my time, but it doesn't matter because I can choose THAT. Not sure if these current EMART illuminators are any better than the ones reviewed, or if the reviewers can't fold the envelope, but felt I should give my opinion as this wasn't my experience at all - oh, and as a bonus, I can change the color from silver to white in 15 seconds and from white to silver in 2 seconds - this is the best feature for me!
