The replacement screen had the wrong connector. As you can see in my first picture the connector from the display doesn't match the port on the board. The second photo (broken original screen) shows that the two connectors are completely different. True, I ran into a late-production 3DS in 2017, so the port may have been changed. All I know is that the replacement screen doesn't work with my new 3DS XL. Update: I received a refund today after my install only to find it was a 1st gen display so it's entirely my fault. I've updated my rating to 5 stars, assuming it will work for anyone with a 1st Edition 3DS XL. Regardless, the installation was a REAL pain, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't very good at small electronics repairs.
