Review on Cardinal Gates Auto Lock Gate White by Danielle Smith

Easy installation, no bottom rail to trip over

We have two of these gates, one we bought and the other was a gift from our parents. Gates are lightweight and easy to install. We installed one through an interior door and one in the landing next to the top of our stairs. The gate benefited from adhesive foam padding placed where the locking lever meets the gate crossbar. The foam helps reduce the noise when the gate hits the latch lever. We like that the ground under the goal is clear and there is no slat to trip over. Both gates required a slight flex in the mounting tab on the side of the gate, even after we ensured all components were installed evenly and correctly. The lock assembly needs to be sprayed with lube (WD-40 works great) every few weeks to keep it running smoothly. I attached some zip ties to the gate before tightening the set screws to adjust the width as I wasn't impressed with the size and quality of the set screws. The zip ties also helped align the gate properly. We don't like how loud the striker bar is when it returns to the down position. Falls with a loud bang. The supplied one-way bracket, so the gate only opens one way, cannot be fully tightened, but the bracket still works. I would prefer a hasp that runs the full length of the gate with at least two hasps. If you want to install this gate somewhere other than the door frame, please buy longer screws first! The screws provided are too short to securely attach the gate through the drywall and into the post to the wall. I used rough #10 1.5" screws that barely go through the holes in the gate pieces to attach the gate to the wall in the landing near the stairs. Luckily I had two bobby pins right across from them. Use an appropriately sized pilot hole. and the grille is very secure once installed. If the grid is used and installed correctly, you will not have any problems. If you forget to lock it and your child falls down the stairs, it's your fault, not the gate.
