I bought the backlight with the remote control - glad I did. I couldn't get my Samsung S9 to connect to Bluetooth - it saw it but couldn't connect. I also tried my iPad but it couldn't even recognize it as a Bluetooth device (I have an old original iPad). It looks like the app will give you more control over the backlight, but we haven't been able to test that. That's why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. With 3M tape, it stuck to the back of the TV very well. I used the 40-46 inch setup method on my 40 inch TV. I then plugged the strip into a USB port on my TV. With the TV on, I turned on the backlight with the remote and tested different colors to see which worked best for me. Since my walls are blue, white suits me best. The photos show before and after. It really takes the strain off your eyes when you're watching TV at night when no other lights are on. Also, I found out that the backlight remembers the last settings. So if I turn off the TV with the TV on, backlight and white light setting, the backlight also turns off. When I turn the TV back on, the backlight automatically turns white as well. If I turn off the backlight first and then turn off the TV, the backlight has to be turned back on manually when I turn the TV back on. I definitely recommend this backlight if you're watching TV in a dark, unlit room.
