So I didn't read right away and just thought that it widens on the sides and it was very interesting to note that it also widens on the front and widened at the back! I have an 18lb Maine Coon (he's bigger than our Pomeranian) and he fits in comfortably although he doesn't stretch; turn a little tight, but he can handle it. It can stand up for the most part, but barely fits in length to have little wiggle room. I like the double zippers on the loading sides so I can attach a luggage lock as my cat can escape once she learns to open the inside. He is perfectly content once it's up and can rest normally. The side panels are made of thick material, really durable and good quality. The padding feels very soft and he seems to like it a lot.
