I bought two of these both are XL. One for the presentation basket in the hallway and one for the blankets next to the sofa. Size XL is perfect for a large knit blanket and throw. But I would suggest L or less for shoe storage. I have 2 kids for reference and we have a few couples in this basket but L would do for that.
