Review on Timbermate Red Hardwood Wood Filler by Chris Horton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good thing. Colors beautifully. But buy the right color!

Nice thing. I personally like the thick consistency of peanut butter. I find it much more intuitive to fill in cracks than a gritty consistency like Minwax fill. It REALLY smells like contact cement. But after I sanded and stained the test piece, I barely smelled it. It certainly doesn't invade the room. So how strong the smell lingers may depend on what you do with it. Additional note: It grinds to a really smooth surface, which is not the case with granular putties. I just wish there was a color chart for some Timbermate fillers. I thought long and hard about what to buy as I wanted a close match with the ash floor. It was actually a pretty good match for my ash on bare wood. After coloring honey I figured the ash would also match the color of the filler very closely. The filler REALLY picks up stains evenly which is impressive! Unfortunately, in my case, that's also terrible, since the filler has darkened flush with the wood, so that the filled joint is visible. Guess I should have bought the maple/beech color? Maybe. I will definitely buy more in other colors in the future. But c'mon dude, give us a color chart!
