I prefer a simple, functional bag and it seems perfect. The color and fabric are strong yet beautiful. It's well done. The size is great! but... it doesn't work for me. He really needs some simple but functional pockets - at least one slip or magazine on the back, big enough for a modern smartphone, one slip pocket inside and ideally also a zip pocket for stashing small items and a small purse or case cards. It has a small patch side pocket on the front flap which is useless to me. But it's well made and will probably serve your needs better than mine.
