Best price for a 24 inch brake

After searching through Ebay, Lowe’s (I had no ideas they sold metalworking machines), and a few other sites on line, this was the best price for a 24 inch box/pan brake. The package/crate in tact with no defects and the product untouched. This was a huge upgrade for my toolbox and has made my projects/hobby 10x faster. Only recommendation would be adding a marker for reaching 90 degrees on a bend. Though After a couple bends you can find the right spot for your 90. I would also add the…

Good buy for the hobbyist

Let's be honest: If you're looking seriously at buying this machine price is your number one consideration. I picked this up offline locally for $260 about two weeks ago. For that price, I think it's excellent, especially compared to my previously method of bending sheet metal with a 4-inch hand seamer and a hammer over the edge of my workbench. But there are some downsides. The fit and finish leave something to be desired. You'll need to take a file to some rough areas to avoid snags and/or…

Pros
  • Very heavy duty. wasting money on cheaper options will show in the quality of your work. Just get it.
Cons
  • Chinese junk

This is the one you need!

Excellent quality and probably the most bang for your buck available. I've been forming sheet metal for more than 30 years and have seen a LOT of equipment. This brake is higher quality than I expected. The fingers are quite sharp and would be perfect for light steel and stainless but will need radiused for most aluminum work (or just bend yourself a radius bar)Overall I'm pretty impressed and happy with this purchase.

Cons
  • May produce sharp edges or burrs if not used properly

Injury from handle failure

BUYER BEWARE, HANDLE FAILURE RESULTS IN INJURY. The plastic handle is not high grade and does not have metal stability throughout the complete handle. Was bending a 1/8th inch piece of sheet metal, so it was not anything thick. This was 100% a failure in the machines design & use of materials. Happened to an engineer who has been around heavy machinery for 20 years. Replace the handle immediately if you do purchase.

Pros
  • ‎L
Cons
  • Not recommended for use on extremely thin materials

Setback design flaw

The setback(setting that controls the radius of the bend) is flawed. Instead of it being adjustable from the shear line to around 1/8" behind the shear line, it's instead adjustable from about 1/16 PAST the shearline to 1/16" behind it. This severely limits the range of materials that it can bend. Unfortunately I already tossed the crate. I give it an extra star because it is functional in the limited range that the defective design allows. Was able to get crisp bends in 20ga copper…

First look it came crated, that was good, but upon opening it I saw that the handle had been fractured off at the grip, which was I'm sure due to it not being secured well during shipment. Also you can see the amount of rod that's in the grip versus the extra it was hollowed out, way more then needed. Design flaw in my opinion. The handle still works but it would be nice to get a free replacment. It Also had some scuffs and scrapes in various different areas on the feet an body (missing paint…

Good Box and Pan brake

I have used this Box and Pan brake for about a month and have made dozens of pans and hundreds of single bends without any problems. I have been bending 20Ga (0.032 in.) sheet steel that is 20 inches or less in width and 14 Ga (0.064 in.) brass bar that is 2 inches or less in width. The machine is sturdy, accurate, easy to use and seems well built. I got it on sale from Ebay with free super saver shipping and I am very happy with the purchase so far. If anything changes I will comment later.

Its a step from the usual import quality

This model is a few hundred more than many of the import no-name brands, but it really is nicer. There are twice the number of fingers which does make a difference when using it, all of the parts feel better made and fit/finish is quite good. If you are expecting Pexto quality, don't. You wont find any roller bearings, clamp downs holders or adjustable back stops, but hey, its only $500. For light production and hobby work, it is perfect. I bent narrow pieces of 12 ga steel and it had no issues

Great little break.

Great little brake but check out carefully when it arrives. Mine arrived bent in a couple of places and had adjustment screws broken off in the holes. This box is really too heavy to be shipped FedEx or UPS. Once I straightened out the bent side arms and used an Ezy Out to remove the broken screws and replace them it works like a champ. Bending 26ga flat sheet with no problem. It will bend 24ga but that is about the limit in my opinion. If you are looking for a nice little brake give this one a

Not bad, considering

It's not a US-made serious professional unit but for home shop or occasional use it's not bad. A lot of it is welded sheet rather than cast iron. The legs are too light. Without the crate the whole thing is maybe 70 pounds. They really should give or at least offer additional fingers with radius and offset fingers to get into box corners. Aside from that, it should serve well if you don't abuse it and try to bend heavy stock. I ordered it on Sunday and received it on Wednesday. Would rather…

I like it! good for me

This item arrived on time and nicely packed in a wooden crate. My first few sample bends were excellent. I should have bought one of these long ago! It is just the right size and capacity for most home shop bending needs. I am bending corners for metal fascia being applied to my home, it is actually light enough I can take it with me on my man lift and fabricate the sheet metal on the spot. This is a really big advantage for me as corners on complex home fascia is not necessarily " spot…

Wants are more fun than needs

Was not something I needed, just something I wanted - an inexpensive tool to do an occasional sheet metal job. I happen to like tools, and machinery.

Pros
  • Brake angle: 0-135 Degrees
Cons
  • Not electrically powered, so manual effort is required

Nice for small projects

Nice to have on the bench when you need to make something. Price might be a tad high. But I am happy with the purchase regardless.

Cons
  • Not recommended for use with pre-coated materials

This Is One To Really Consider

I did a lot of research looking at various metal brakes trying to find a capable machine that didn't cost a fortune. I didn't need to bend anything over 18" but I was afraid a smaller machine wouldn't have much muscle. This guy works great on anything I've tried so far. I love it!

Pros
  • New projects in the making
Cons
  • Limited color options

Arrived well packaged without damage.

Arrived by motor freight by courteous drivers. They carried it into my garage. I have a large project using 22 to 26 gauge aluminum. This should be perfect for me. I will use it in the next day or so.Update 2 weeks later, doing a fine job.

Pros
  • Power & Hand Tools
Cons
  • May require additional manpower for larger projects

LOVE THE BRAKE! in my review

Arrived in a slightly damaged box, but everything inside was fine. After a few adjustments, went right to work bending some 304 stainless pans. The specs say 1.75 max box depth, I believe it is a bit deeper. Had to knock sharp edges off dies with stone, but all is well. Excellant addition to my shop!

Pros
  • ‎corded-electric
Cons
  • Not suitable for outdoor use or exposure to moisture

What a great piece of equipment

Ahhh! What a great piece of equipment. So well made and so useful for my needs. Although it works great right out of the box, I did take the time to go over and smooth all the edges of the machined parts to make sure everything is easy on the handling of those parts. I call it 'tuning' to further enhance this already great unit. This is not my first SHOPFOX piece of equipment, so I had expectations on its quality before it arrives and I was not disappointed.

Pros
  • Maximum box depth: 1-3/4-Inch
Cons
  • Not suitable for large industrial production settings

Greatest new tool in my work shop!

My new 'Shop Fox M1011' is incredible! I was expecting it to be a bit wimpy for the price (500.00 less than another brand) but it is really a solid piece of equipment. I'm using it to fabricate fine silver and copper hinged boxes that will have enameled lids. My Metalsmithing will never be the same. What a time and labor saver!Thank you so much!

Pros
  • Came well boxed no damage fit and finish above average work great
Cons
  • May require additional space in a workshop or garage

Great finger brake for the small shop/hobbiest

Absolutely awesome sheet metal brake. Heavy and quality construction. Great adjustability and accuracy. Free two day shipping with Prime made me feel like I stole it. I use it for auto restoration and the fingers fit most every need so far.

Pros
  • Material capacity: 24-Inch by 20 gauge mild steel
Cons
  • Not recommended for use in poorly ventilated areas
