Review on 🏻 Boyata Laptop Stand – Adjustable Laptop Riser for MacBook & Laptops up to 17 Inches – Champagne Gold by David Underberg

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Only a major design flaw renders a quality product inoperable.

I was hesitant to review - this is indeed a 3.5 star product. I decided to round down because the main flaw is quite serious and I can't consider the design successful. I'll get this bug out of the way. The thick, solid aluminum, which feels strong and premium and looks great, acts as a thermal insulator. Slots cut in a very small area of the disk do little to solve the problem. After putting my Surface Pro on a stand and enjoying how good it looked, in less than five minutes it got so hot that it started to severely slow down and had a hard time moving smoothly around the mouse pointer, though there was no application Does not run. It seemed like the laptop stand was made specifically to keep the Surface from overheating, but the stand actually didn't block any of the 360-degree vents on the sides around the tablet. And yet the Surface cooked itself. After three years I have NEVER seen this turn into a nuclear period let alone within minutes. So the problem must be the material design. If you have something more powerful, with vents on the bottom of the laptop, the BoYata stand will actively block them, and you'll be worse off. It sucks because I was really impressed when I pulled the stand out of the box. It's chunky, durable, stylish and flawless, and has an industrial-grade hinge so you don't have to worry about it accidentally slipping on you. I was sad to send it back and I probably won't buy another stand that I can't personally test. There is another base for the boYat that looks identical, just with a larger cutout for ventilation. That could be ok. If you place the laptop horizontally on a stand, you can also put some makeshift legs under the laptop to give the computer a layer of air to breathe. But if you use the stand at an angle or upright like I did, you're just banging your computer against a pretty piece of metal.

Pros
  • Top marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • No paint required
