The first one worked fine with my 2018 15" MacBook Pro so I bought a second one for home use. I carry the first one around in my backpack for mobile use. I used USB-A, HDMI, and wired Ethernet ports. Everything worked fine. I also use pass-through stores regularly with no problems. A second one permanently on my desk, always connected to a wired ethernet network and a spare Apple power adapter. Basically inexpensive charging and a wired ethernet dock. Seemingly solid construction and the convenience of simply plugging in a single cable for charging and wired ethernet without taking anything out of your backpack except the laptop itself. I'll probably get a CalDigit TS3 Plus for home use at some point, but it suits my current needs well (charging and ethernet, sometimes USB-A devices). The extra power adapter and Apple cables are expensive, but then again, I always bought a spare power adapter anyway. My Road Warrior can stay in my bag when I'm home (eliminates the risk of him being left behind when I leave) and if he dies I know I have a spare until I can replace him. I haven't used the SD slot on any of them but I think they work fine. I haven't had it that long, but so far I can highly recommend this device.
