Review on ๐Ÿงฅ Warmth and Style Combined: Columbia Women's Icy Heights II Mid Length Down Jacket by Mary Alvarado

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Pockets are poorly stitched and feathers appear

INFO: I've had it for about 4 months. I usually wear size X-Small to S, size 2-4 in clothes depending on the brand, and I'm 5'8". I bought the medium one so I can wear 1-2 sweaters underneath. The medium size fits me perfect and the sleeves fit just above the wrist The length I have is mid thigh (well sort of like top of the thigh) THE GOOD: The jacket is nice and well tailored for the most part I have it Bought it in chalk white because I knew I needed to clean it, it holds up well in the washing machine and all stains come off fairly easily even without bleach (this was after I put it at a dog park and four or five dogs on me jumped and I was covered in mud). Wrist cuffs aren't lint, they're elastic, which is good, but gets dirty quicker. When I wash this, I wash it in cold water, tumble dry, and shake it again on .i only wore it for a few hours with a t-shirt in 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit and was surprised at how warm it is. Under 30 you definitely need a light sweater underneath. But for the most part, it's lightweight, so walking around in it is pretty easy. I love that there is a double zipper so you can undo the ends while sitting and the material doesn't wrinkle. The hood is fluffy and cute and also detachable with four to five snaps (I've got brains and no idea what they're called) but it's nice that there's an option to remove the hood. The buttons come loose easily when you're shifting gears in the car and the hood catches on the headrest or something, but it's not hard to snap any of the buttons back into place. The hood also has lint and stays on the head which is nice. There is an inside zip pocket but I hardly ever use it. A nice feature though. THE BAD: The pockets are poorly sewn. If somehow you do not think about how to put your hands in your pockets and move, then the seams will gradually tear until a hole appears where the fluff will separate from the jacket. Little bits of down will fly out and you'll feel absolutely angelic as the feathers soar and radiate around you like a halo until you realize there's a hole in your $97 jacket. BTW I only paid $97 for it in December 2020, but somehow it's $160 as of April 2021? The price increase is ridiculous. Both pockets have the same crappy seam problem and I had to sew the holes twice, once for each pocket to reinforce the pockets' seams. I'm not a seamstress so I sewed them by hand with a needle and thread. Even one of the pockets zipped off because of the stitching, so I had to flatten the zip and pin the zip back (unfortunately in the opposite direction as it fell off. I always know which jacket I'm wearing to a party). The zippers are also flimsy, difficult to open and often catch on the fabric of the jacket. Even if you kind of think my hands are two giant trash can lids that caused the bags to shatter, they're not. My hands are, I'd say, medium sized (but maybe Columbia thinks women's bags should be made for tiny, dainty elf hands?!), but before I reinforced the pockets I was afraid to put them in my pockets for another rip Rip Rip Rip as the threads are torn apart. Honestly. I shouldn't think so much about my clothes! This is a good brand jacket! I'm not a grumpy teenager anymore, but if I want to put my hands in my jacket pockets with reckless force, I should be able to do it with as much ferocity and fear as I want without them breaking! Anyway, Tl;DR: perfect jacket, very cute, very warm. If it weren't for the bags. You drove me crazy I took a star off every bag because this jacket pissed me off so much.
