We have 2 guinea pigs and I didn't like playing with bedding. One of them is a skinny pig and can't have wood shavings or paper shavings and to be honest some of the bedding reviews were terrible. This pillow was really great. It's nice and soft. And the biggest benefit is that I don't notice the smell like I used to when we used bedding. The smell of pets is almost gone. I like 2 packs, one is washed and you can put the other in right away and you always have a pack ready. Highly recommended for any pet. I don't think it's good for a puppy. Unless he was very small. For potty training I think ammo pads would be much better since you don't potty train long enough to need something durable and washable? But I'm happy with them and glad we bought them.
