Review on Airace Bike Tire Lever Set: Premium Cycling Repair Accessories for Quick and Easy Bike Tube Maintenance by Chris Hayes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It worked for me, but there should be a wider version with a slightly longer grip for MTB tires

Surprisingly strong considering how thin and narrow the tip is. I first attempted to mount a new CST Rock Hawk MTB clincher using the Soma's steel core lever (plastic body) and bent the tip of the Soma in the process. I had to give it up. A pair of Soma levers had only been used a handful of times before as I was quite happy with those yellow plastic Pedro levers I must have left at the hotel on an overnight weekend trip. So I had a pair of polished aluminum Airace levers. in my toolbox for a few years but never used them for fear they would ruin the black finish on my rims. I needed to get my MTB working again as soon as possible and had no choice but to try these Airace levers for the first time. They are a bit short and narrow for such a tough Rock Hawk tire. I don't have much to understand or enough leverage to apply. However, since I do hand grip resistance exercises, I had enough grip to make them work and I was able to finish them. Not easy to use on tough jobs, but they excel where the somas failed miserably! These should be heat treated forgings as they are very thin but will not bend. Die-cast aluminum of this size would burst under the enormous leverage required. The problem with the Airace is that it's a bit short for leverage and not wide enough to provide enough grip for a weaker person than me and therefore harder to use for heavy work like the Rock Hawk tire. Glad I had them but I will be ordering another pair of Pedros in 2 minutes.

Pros
  • Everything great!
Cons
  • Expensive
